JEWELLERY LOSS & DAMAGE: VALUATIONS
Hatton Garden Heist April 2015
It's unlikely you'll have suffered a loss like this!
But if you happen to suffer any loss or damage to one of your favourite pieces of jewellery you will almost certainly be very distressed. Unfortunately, enquiries from customers who have suffered a burglary are not uncommon and over the years we have also rescued seriously damaged jewellery for many customers. Some accidents have included rings crushed in the door jamb, chewed by the dog and even a whole collection of rings accidentally burnt in a fire!
Regrettably it isn’t possible to compensate for everything, but once you come to terms with the emotional issues, you will next want to address your financial loss. That means contacting your insurers and they will certainly need an up to date jewellery valuation.
Antiques Road Show makes fascinating television but it does give the misleading impression of "instant valuations". This just doesn't happen: you don’t see any of the detailed examination and research that goes on before the camera is turned on!
A valuation starts with the question .. .."what is this valuation to be used for?" ....a replacement price for insurance?.. an estimate of auction price?.... or a value for division between parties (eg. Probate). Each will result in a different value.
Only a very detailed examination by a specialist and appropriately qualified jewellery valuer can produce the detailed and illustrated folio that is also a robust and legal document.
To meet the growing demand for this service, we at PSJ Jewellers are delighted to offer a new regular Valuations Day service. Starting on Friday 30th June and continuing on every last Friday of each month. Our professional IRV* valuer will be with us throughout each valuation day. * Institute of Registered Valuers
